Stuck On Stupid

I've just read an article in the May 29th issue of New York magazine about Peter Gaiten, a notorious Canadian who owned nightclubs during the 80's and 90's. He exemplified and guarded artists in New York City. After Mayor Rudolph Giuliani took office, he was found guilty of tax evasion and deported back to Canada, where he now resides.


New York City (Manhattan) was extremely exciting during the 80's and 90's, thanks to him, now it is a placid, money generating machine but Peter Gaiten, alas, is opening a new club called Circa in Toronto after seven years. Good for him. You may have seen the movie Party Monster, starring Macaualy Calkin and Dylan McDermott. Macaulay Calkin played Michael Alig, a vivacious promoter for Peter Gaiten's nightclubs. Unfortunately, Michael Alig took the liberty of murdering a person also involved in the nightclub scene during the "heyday". He is now in a juvenile hall, being held until next year.


What does this all mean? You figure it out. With heavy metal swinging back, smacking people in the face, there's no telling what's going to happen. I'll tell you one thing, though, Republican paranoia and all that other shit that comes with it is almost over. I feel I will be a part of the resurgence of creative freedom but we will be catapulted into the future through technology and idealism. What does mean for pop culture and everything else pop? It means it will come back differently, in a big way.
